CSI Pittsburgh December Meeting: 2020 The Year of Disasters, 2021 - The Year of Resilience

Date: Tuesday, December 8, 2020

2020 has been quite a year.  Many have said, “What else could possibly happen”?  Well, a lot actually, but here is a program that will help you prepare for some potential natural disasters that our community often has to deal with.  Two national experts will discuss ways to make our buildings and communities more resilient in the face of these potential disasters and other calamities.  While the term resiliency is batted around, there are some specific things we can do to make our projects and communities better able to handle these events and bounce back.

Christine Mondor of Evolve EA will speak on designing and shaping sustainable environments and communities with an eye on resilience especially with infrastructure.  Daniel Dain of Huckabee will talk about the importance of storm shelters especially in schools where we have vulnerable populations and what steps can be taken to design for high winds.  The speakers’ expertise on developing EcoDistricts in Pittsburgh and serving on the National Storm Shelter Association will provide us with the tools that we can use to make Pittsburgh a resilient community now and in 2021.
